What is FREESAT ?

Freesat is quite simply a joint venture between BBC & ITV to transmit TV & Radio
programs via satellite as opposed to the present terrestrial system. In order to
receive these programmes you will require a satellite dish and suitable receiving equipment .

Freesat presently offers the same range of programmes currently on offer on Freeview with just a
couple of channels still to come on board (see Freesat channel listing) but with the added bonus
of free HD programs from the BBC & ITV. It is intended that Freesat will be a non subscription
service requiring only a one off equipment purchase.

You will not be charged any extra once your equipment is installed to receive over (at present)
80 TV & Radio channels and this is expected to rise to over 200 shortly.

Well, you're going to need a satellite dish and a receiver capable of receiving the FREESAT signal.

Exisiting SKY satellite dishes pointed at Astra/Eurobird1 positionof 28° East will pick up the FREESAT signals but the LNB on the dish may need changing IF you want to receive HD transmissions. You will need a new receiver though and these are currently being sold through a network of authorised retailers such as Dixons - Comet - Currys & Argos. These companies all offer a professional installing package at around £80 which includes new Dish, LNB, Cable etc but if you feel up to the job you can purchase a receiver/dish kit from MAPLINS which includes everything you need to do the job.

Remember , once you havepurchased and installed your equipment there is NO SUBSCRIPTION FEE
